Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals (Hairdressing)
Skills are developed by practicing in a commercial salon with genuine clients during the working day. The apprentice also undertakes off-the-job training sessions. To complete the qualification, students must demonstrate competence across a variety of mandatory and optional tasks which include those listed below.
Greeting clients, hair consultations, shampoo and condition, cut hair using a variety of techniques, style and finish, colour and lighten, safe working practices
Perming, hair relaxation techniques, hair extensions
• Apprentices are employed by a local salon and receive a wage
• Training is a mix of practice on-the-job, and off-the-job training
• After completion, students can progress onto an advanced apprenticeship in hairdressing
• Tutors from Mode provide ongoing support and assessment to students throughout their course, and this includes additional training in English and Maths if necessary
Costs and funding
This apprenticeship costs £3000. The costs of training and assessment are usually paid for by government funding, with contributions from the hair salon. The course can also be paid for privately.
