18 to 24 months depending on previous experience and apprentice progress
Qualification
Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals (Hairdressing)
Course content
Skills are developed by:
- Working in a commercial hair salon and
- College 1 day per week for off the job training

Mandatory:
- Greeting clients
- Consultation
- Shampoo and condition
- Cut hair using a variety of techniques
- Style and finish
- Colour hair
- Safe working practices
Optional:
- Perming
- Hair relaxation techniques
- Hair extensions
End Point Assessment – EPA
Practical observation
The apprentice needs to show competence. Firstly, completing a range of services. In addition, they must meet industry standards and commercial timings.
Oral questioning
Apprentices will be assessed on:
- consultation skills
- communication skills
- safe working practices
- professionalism,values and behaviours

- Apprentices are employed by a local salon

Costs and funding
Hairdressing apprenticeship standard costs £7,000. The cost is usually government funded. In addition to contributions from your employer. However, the course can also be paid for privately.
