Merseyside Police fund successful engagement initiative

Over the summer, Mode Training delivered a six week DJ course. The course was funded by Merseyside Police as part of their diversionary courses for preventative policing.

Music was used as a vehicle to divert young people away from potentially becoming involved in anti-social behaviour, crime or violence. Attendance also provided the young people with a safe space to learn new skills.

Over the six weeks, the students were taught how to DJ and also introduced to production skills and how to create their own music.

At the end of the course the students showcased their new skills to family and friends. DJ Lee Butler presented the students with their certificates. He also shared his own experiences of growing up. Providing the students with some fantastic advice, learning from some of his own mistakes.

Feedback

Feedback from parents was extremely positive. One parent, was delighted to say, this the first thing her son has been engaged with and enjoyed for a long time.

Superintendent Martin Earl, Preventative Policing from Merseyside Police said: “Supporting initiatives such as this one are so important as they allow us to engage with young people living in the area and show them that there many opportunities available to allow them to realise their potential.

“I hope this course has inspired them to embrace new challenges and gives them the confidence to continue to focus their energies on something that is positive and, more importantly, something that they enjoy.”

Students also received special gifts from The Secret Warehouse and a free 1:1 DJ lesson from Mode.

We are extremely proud of the students progress. We look forward to welcoming them back in the future after a very successful few weeks.

What’s next?

Planning is underway to continue the course in the autumn term. This will give students the opportunity to attend up to the age of 16.

Once the students leave school there is post 16 funding available at Mode.
